ECOLOGICAL ZONES

Long time ago, the Ogiek community were led by a council of elder who guided them during seasonal climatic conditions. They could go hunting animals such as rabbits, elephants, antelopes they also gathered edible fruits such as pawpaw and sirek, it was done in groups for security purpose and better production. Below are different zones Ogiek community migrated to evade harsh climatic seasons:

 

1.Tirik

• It bordered Sabo

• It had harsh climatic condition because it was too hot

• It was frequently visited by elephants since it was spacious which necessitated ogiek to migrate to Tuimasat

• Children were not allowed to stay in this zones.

• It was meant to save people during hunger, they could go hunting.

• it was only meant for food collection.

2. Tuimasap

• The place was also known as Marioshoni

• The place was fertile

• The place had plenty of food due to its fertility

3. Mosop

• The place was dark because of thick forest.

• It had favorable weather condition.

• It was occupied by different animals to hunt

4. Eloiwek

• They collected herbal medicine at this place

• They also prepared honey at this place

5. Sabo

• It was place where food were majorly consumed

• It had favorable weather

6. Rogrogwet

• A place where water was collected

• It had traditional drinks such as lugumek

• They could practice farming here

7.  Tolilet

• This was the coldest place

• People use to contract cold diseases any time they visit the place.
